Nick Wright Says 1 NFC Contender Is ‘Cooked’

Nick Wright Says 1 NFC Contender Is ‘Cooked’

NFL football

In late November, the Philadelphia Eagles were 10-1, and many felt at the time they were the best team in the NFL.

But three straight losses to the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, and Seattle Seahawks followed, and all of a sudden, they became a team in disarray.

Things got even worse on Sunday when they lost by four points to the woeful Arizona Cardinals, and with an 11-5 record, they’re in great danger of finishing second in the NFC East.

Nick Wright said on his podcast “What Wright? with Nick Wright” that the Eagles are in trouble, and it isn’t only because their defense has faltered.

“The Eagles are cooked,” Wright said.

Wright also wondered if their head coach Nick Sirianni can “lead from behind.”

There has been speculation that Sirianni’s job could be in jeopardy, and in fact, one reporter said his players no longer believe in him.

But perhaps the most concerning thing Wright mentioned is the possibility that quarterback Jalen Hurts isn’t quite as good as many have believed.

Last season, when the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl and lost in the closing seconds after blowing a 10-point lead, Hurts threw for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns and was the runner-up in the MVP balloting.

While he has thrown for 3,803 yards and 23 touchdowns so far this season, he also has 14 interceptions compared to six last season, and his passer rating has fallen by over 10 points compared to 2022.

In fact, Wright called last season an “outlier year” for Hurts, and now Philly is on the hook for a five-year, $255 million contract extension they gave him in April.

With their inability to put together lopsided wins against inferior opponents this season, the team could be headed toward an early playoff exit this month.
