Nick Wright Speculates on Which NFL Coach May Face Early Dismissal

One question NFL fans and pundits ask when each season starts is, “Which head coach will be the first to get fired?”

Late last season and into the offseason, there was plenty of speculation that one coach in particular was on the hot seat: Nick Sirianni of the Philadelphia Eagles.

His team lost five of its last six regular season games and got routed in the wild-card round of the playoffs by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and there were reports that he had lost the locker room.

Commentator Nick Wright said that if the Eagles don’t get off to a good start this season, Sirianni could be fired sooner rather than later.

“The Eagles have to start the season well, or I think Sirianni could be fired early,” he said on “What’s Wright with Nick Wright.” “… Sirianni absolutely could be fired during the season if it starts going poorly.”

Wright also mentioned Dennis Allen of the New Orleans Saints, Robert Saleh of the New York Jets and Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys as other head coaches who are in danger of getting fired in the near future.

The Saints were being picked by some to win the NFC South at this time last year, but they narrowly missed out on doing so, and now the franchise has the look of one that is in slow decline.

The Jets have very high expectations with quarterback Aaron Rodgers back from a torn Achilles, and the Cowboys, who have a habit of always losing early in the playoffs, have some real roster holes.

But the Eagles have the most talented roster of the four, and some are picking them to reach the Super Bowl and perhaps even win it.

If they struggle out of the gate and therefore fall short, there is a chance Sirianni will become a casualty of that failure.
