Nick Wright: Trevor Lawrence’s Contract Extension Impacting Two Quarterbacks

As one of the star quarterbacks in the league eligible to receive a long-term contract extension with his team this NFL offseason, it wasn’t all that surprising that Trevor Lawrence came to terms with a lucrative deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars recently.

Although Lawrence is coming off a season in which he was unable to lead the Jaguars back into the NFL playoffs after a stellar 2022 campaign, the Jaguars know that it is not an easy task to land a franchise quarterback or hope one falls in their laps in the NFL Draft.

That said, the team went all-in on Lawrence with a lucrative long-term deal, signing him to a five-year contract worth $275 million, with $200 million of the new agreement being fully guaranteed.

Despite causing a stir with this new deal around the league, the Jaguars brass seem content with securing Lawrence’s future, but some teams around the league might not feel the same about what Jacksonville did with their star quarterback.

Nick Wright of FOX Sports believes Lawrence’s new deal has significantly impacted contract talks for Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys star Dak Prescott via First Things First.

With Lawrence getting a deal that puts him in the same category as superstar Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, Love and Prescott are likely using it as leverage, and Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins might be doing the same.

It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out for Love, Prescott and Tagovailoa as they try to secure their long-term futures with their respective teams and which of these stars potentially resets the quarterback market.
