Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz: 2024 Australian Open

Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz: 2024 Australian Open

Novak Djokovic has been playing some amazing tennis lately, but will that continue against Taylor Fritz in the 2024 Australian Open quarterfinal?

The Serbian just demolished Adrian Mannarino for his most impressive win at this year’s Australian Open. It follows after the second-best match he played at the event against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, which is a positive development for Djokovic.

After dealing with sickness early at the event and the wrist problem, the 24-time Grand Slam champion is looking every bit of a champion. It won’t be easy, though, as he’s going to face Taylor Fritz, who is a player that can be dangerous at his best day.

He just bested last year’s finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets and is looking pretty dangerous. Can he do something here, though?

Head-to-head:

Djokovic and Fritz have played quite a few matches so far in their careers and it’s been utter domination from the Serbian. He leads the H2H 8-0 against Fritz, including two matches last year, both of which were easy wins for Djokovic.

They had played once in Melbourne before, and it was a close five-set win for Djokovic because the court speed in the Australian city gave Fritz a chance to attack more aggressively.

That’s what he said after his win over Tsitsipas when asked how to approach the matchup. He singled out the speed of the court as something he would try to use to his advantage.

Novak Djokovic Taylor Fritz
8 H2H 0
1 Rank 12
36 Age 26
6-1 2024 W/L 5-1
1089-214 Career W/L 236-168

Prediction:

Do I think Fritz will beat Djokovic? I don’t think so because I just can’t see him sustain a very high level to down Djokovic. This court is one of the best for Djokovic, and beating him here will require a special effort. I do think it might get interesting, but overall, I still think Djokovic will come out on top.

Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in four sets.
