Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos is reportedly considering a long-term move away from Newcastle at the season’s end.

The 31-year-old is currently on loan at Sevilla, where he is optimistic about securing a permanent role. The Greek goalie has openly expressed his wish to leave Newcastle for good.

Vlachodimos’ Time at Newcastle

The goalkeeper initially joined Newcastle in a £20 million deal but faced challenges securing a regular spot in the team, managing only 45 minutes of play before heading to Sevilla on a seasonal loan last August.

Vlachodimos has emerged as a crucial asset for Sevilla, and it is understandable that he desires to make the move permanent. At this stage of his career, he prefers not to remain as a backup option upon his return to Newcastle.

The player has shared his satisfaction with life at Sevilla, affirming that he has had discussions with both the club’s president and sporting director about his future there.

Despite his current contract with Newcastle, which complicates his situation, he appears eager for a fresh chapter with Sevilla.

Vlachodimos Reflects on His Experience

In a recent statement, he remarked, “I really enjoy playing each match with this team. I strive to give my best every day, and that brings me joy. I’ve had conversations with the coach, president, and sporting director about our standing in LaLiga. Essentially, this experience has been a gift since I arrived here.”

He continued, “While I still hold a contract with Newcastle, their decision is the pivotal factor. I can’t predict the future or respond to queries about it. I genuinely don’t know what awaits this summer. We’ll have to wait and see come season’s end.”

Vlachodimos hasn’t been a central figure for Newcastle. It remains to be seen whether the club will allow him to pursue his departure at season’s conclusion. Selling him could be advantageous for Newcastle, particularly since they already have two other goalkeepers, making it likely he would not see playing time if he returns next season.
