Offspring of eight-time PGA Tour champion excels at PGA Tour first-stage qualifier

Son of 8-time PGA Tour winner shined at PGA Tour first-stage qualifier

Taylor Funk and Davis Lamb tied for medalist in a PGA Tour first-stage qualifier at the Bermuda Run Country Club in North Carolina last week.

Funk, the Florida Times-Union’s high school player of the year in 2013, shot four rounds in the 60s, finishing with a 13-under 271 total score after rounds of 68, 67, 67, and 69.

Son of 8-time PGA Tour winner Fred Funk, Taylor Funk is a former University of Texas player and Lamb is a former Notre Dame player. Both players advanced to one of five second-stage qualifiers set to begin in late November. The ultimate goal is to secure a spot in the PGA Tour Q-School presented by Korn Ferry, scheduled for Dec. 12-15 at the TPC Sawgrass Dye’s Valley and Sawgrass Country Club.

Funk participated in the final stage of the Q-School last year, finishing tied for 97th.

According to the PGA Tour:

For the second straight year, PGA Tour cards will be available at the PGA Tour Q-School presented by Korn Ferry, which will be held Dec. 12-15 at TPC Sawgrass’ Dye’s Valley Course and Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The top five and ties will earn an immediate promotion to golf’s highest level, with the remaining finishers at Final Stage earning varying levels of Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Americas membership based on finish.

Q-School consists of four stages: pre-qualifying, First Stage, Second Stage and Final Stage. Some players begin at pre-qualifying, while others are directly exempt into First Stage, Second Stage or Final Stage based on prior merit.

The final first-stage qualifier is scheduled at the Country Club of Ocala from Oct. 29-Nov. 1, as the initial event was postponed due to Hurricane Milton.
