Olesen Claims Victory at Amateur Championship – Golf Updates

Olesen wins Amateur Championship - Golf News

Jacob Skov Olesen made history at Ballyliffin by becoming the first Danish golfer to win The Amateur Championship. The 25-year-old defeated Dominic Clemons in a 36-hole showdown over the Glashedy Links with a 4&3 victory, marking a memorable Championship debut for Olesen. His win not only secured one of the most prestigious trophies in the amateur game but also earned him exemptions for The 152nd Open at Royal Troon, the 2025 US Open, and an invitation to the Masters Tournament next April.

The thrilling match saw Olesen chipping in for a birdie on the 23rd hole to take a commanding lead. Clemons, initially two-down after the morning session, fought back admirably with a birdie putt on the 27th hole and an eagle opportunity on the 28th. Olesen responded with a bunker shot birdie, but Clemons continued to challenge him, winning back holes and keeping the match alive. Despite Clemons’ efforts, Olesen maintained his lead and secured the title with two putts in the end.

Olesen’s victory was set up in the morning session where he took the lead over Clemons with a series of strong plays. Clemons briefly led during the day but faltered with bogeys, allowing Olesen to move ahead. Clemons tried to claw back holes but Olesen’s steady play ensured he kept the lead until the end.
