We’re seven weeks into the 2024 NFL season, and Jared Goff should be the MVP.

The former No. 1 pick has been on an absolute tear this season, and he proved it again by taking down one of the best defenses in the league on Sunday.

Goff finished the game with 22 completions on 25 passes for 280 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.

More than that, he managed to put up those numbers despite being on his toes for most of the game.

As pointed out by Next Gen Stats on X, he was under pressure on a season-high 51.7% of his dropbacks.

He still finished 10 for 11 for 164 yards and two scores.

Moreover, he’s averaging a league-best 11.6 yards per attempt while under pressure this season, with no other quarterback averaging over 9.0.

The Lions are now 5-1 and atop of the NFC North.

Goff is thriving in Ben Johnson’s offense, and while he does have a plethora of weapons to work with, his efficiency and timely play have also been key to their success.

He’s thrown for 1,610 yards while completing 73.6% of his passes, averaging 9.3 yards per attempt.

He’s also thrown ten touchdowns against just four interceptions.

Some people had already made up their minds about him for his early struggles, but this is not the Jared Goff of old.

This is a guy who’s gotten his confidence back, is playing like a No. 1 pick, and is proving that the Lions were right for giving him all that money in the offseason.

This is a franchise player.
