NFL Analyst Gives His Honest Thoughts About Derek Carr's Skills

Derek Carr had a solid statistical season in his first year with the New Orleans Saints and threw for 3,878 yards and 25 touchdowns with just eight interceptions while battling through multiple injuries.

The quarterback landscape is loaded around the league these days and one analyst recently shared his honest thoughts on Carr.

Analyst Greg Cosell spoke about Carr on the Ross Tucker Podcast and mentioned that he did a deep dive on Carr recently, noting “He needs to be clean in the pocket, he’s dynamic throwing the ball when that’s the case” while adding “Carr was phenomenal with under center play action, and that’s going to be a meaningful part of the (Klint) Kubiak offense.”

Cosell said that while Carr isn’t as good as others at navigating pressure, he is great if the pocket is kept clean, and much of new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s offense will be predicated on making sure Carr is kept upright and protected.

New Orleans only surrendered 35 sacks last season and did a good job protecting Carr in his first season and drafted Taliese Fuaga 14th overall in the draft this year to presumably take over at left tackle right out of the gate.

The Saints were top-10 in the NFL last season in points scored and points given up, which makes it rough that they missed the playoffs despite being that successful on both sides of the ball.

New Orleans went 9-8 last season and seven of the eight losses were by less than ten points.
