Ousmane Dembélé is likely to make his long-awaited return for Paris Saint-Germain during Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League home match against Tottenham. The Ballon d’Or winner has faced a tough season so far, featuring in only nine matches due to two separate injuries.
However, following a productive training session on Tuesday, PSG manager Luis Enrique indicated that Dembélé is in line to participate against Spurs, stating, “He’s trained well. If there are no problems, he’ll be in the squad.”
This comes as a significant boost for PSG, especially after their recent home loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League earlier this month.
The upcoming encounter marks the second clash between these two clubs this season, the first being a thrilling Super Cup match in August, where Dembélé played a pivotal role in a dramatic comeback, leading PSG to victory on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
“Tottenham have started the season brilliantly and remain unbeaten in the Champions League. They boast many international players and are a formidable opponent,” remarked Enrique.
Reflecting on their earlier match, he noted, “The Super Cup was our season opener; Wednesday’s matchup will be different. While it ended positively for us, I remember the first hour was tough.”
“We aim to be dominant in every game. It won’t be easy, but we’re playing at Parc des Princes, and our goal is to perform exceptionally well for our fans,” he added.
Wednesday could also mark a milestone for PSG captain Marquinhos if he is selected to play. The Brazilian defender, who has not played since the 3-0 victory over Le Havre, is set to make his 500th appearance for the club if involved against Tottenham.
<p“It's an incredible achievement for Marquinhos,” said Enrique. “Having a leader like him is vital for the team, and I hope to have him for many more years.”
