Some developing news could be circling the air down in Miami.
According to The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was offered a massive deal to hand over control of the organization.
“Steve Ross has entertained massive offer for control Dolphins, stadium, and F1 Miami race…Offer was $10 billion,” Jackson tweeted Wednesday morning.
Jackson also noted that Ross has had previous talks with other businessmen such as billionaire Ken Griffin, but talks ended up falling through.
Ross has been the team’s owner for the last decade-and-a-half going back to 2009.
The billionaire owner hasn’t had the best success when it comes to putting a winning team on the field for all to see.
In the team’s 15 seasons under Ross’s leadership, Miami has made the playoffs just three times.
In fact, the team made just one playoff appearance in 13 years in between 2009 and 2021.
However, since Mike McDaniel got hired back in 2022, the Dolphins have made back-to-back playoff appearances and have won 20 games across the last two years.
Now, they just need to figure out how to win in the postseason.
After all, they haven’t won a playoff game since the year 2000, which was a year after Dan Marino retired.
Having a committed owner absolutely matters because that is the person who is in control of the organization.
But, perhaps it may soon be time for a change in leadership.
At the very least, the 83-year-old Ross could look to form a team of owners to help shoulder the load of running the team.
