GAINESVILLE, Va. – Suzann Pettersen made a bold decision in the Solheim Cup by sitting out Leona Maguire, who has never missed a match in her two appearances. Charley Hull and Esther Henseleit will start things off for Europe against Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz at 7:05 a.m. ET in morning foursomes.
The U.S. swept the morning foursomes last year, but Pettersen hopes for a better outcome this time. Four rookies are participating in morning foursomes, including Albane Valenzuela, Celine Boutier, Sarah Schemzel, and Lauren Coughlin.
Team USA is using a variety of golf balls, with eight players using Titleist. Pettersen, on the other hand, didn’t discuss pairings much with her team and made decisions based on her own judgment.
Some players, like Lexi Thompson, will sit out the morning session, while others, like Anna Nordqvist and Leona Maguire, will also rest for Team Europe.
