Tennis Ireland is pleased to announce that Pat Tiernan Nissan has been appointed as the Official Car Supplier for the eagerly awaited Davis Cup World Group I play-off between Ireland and Austria at the UL Sport Arena next February 3rd and 4th.
The sold-out event promises to be one of the highlights of the local and national sporting calendar with Limerick’s Conor Niland captaining the Ireland team who will compete before a capacity crowd of 4,800 spectators.
Pat Tiernan Nissan are supplying a fleet of 10 vehicles as the event’s Official Car Supplier, including the stylish Nissan Qashqai e-POWER and Nissan X-Trail e-POWER, all of which will be used to drive players, match officials and VIP guests to and from events during their week-long stay in Limerick.
The unique element of Nissan’s e-POWER technology is that it delivers all of the benefits of EV driving without ever having to plug in the car to recharge it. It drives in electric mode 100% of the time and the petrol engine is solely used to charge a battery that powers an electric motor to drive the wheels.
Nissan’s e-POWER technology offers a unique solution to drivers who are not quite ready to make the move to a fully electric vehicle, but who want a spacious, family car that drives like an EV, that optimises fuel efficiency and that lowers CO2 emissions.
Announcing the sponsorship Kevin Quinn, CEO of Tennis Ireland said: “We are delighted to welcome Pat Tiernan Nissan as the Official Car Supplier for the Davis Cup match in Limerick. The excitement is really building now and it is great to see such a well-known local business supporting our sport and ambition to deliver an unforgettable experience for tennis fans all over Ireland.”
“A tremendous amount of work has been done to meet the high standard of organisation associated with the event. The logistics are incredible and the support of Pat Tiernan Nissan is invaluable in helping to ensure that it runs smoothly, allowing players and officials to travel in style and comfort between airports, hotels and the competition venue at the UL Sport Arena,” he added.
Pat Tiernan, Dealer Principal at Pat Tiernan Nissan said: “Everyone at Pat Tiernan Nissan is delighted to see the Davis Cup return to Limerick for the first time since 1989. We are thrilled to be part of such a prestigious event. We look forward to working with Tennis Ireland over the coming weeks and to showcasing how Nissan’s e-POWER technology delivers a more responsive, quieter and efficient way to experience city driving”.
Ireland Team Captain Conor Niland added: “I grew up playing tennis in Limerick and it is going to be a special experience to play in the Davis Cup at the UL Sport Arena. It is heartening to see local businesses like Pat Tiernan Nissan playing their part in bringing live tennis to Limerick and providing the generation of young players who are coming behind me with an opportunity to see where the sport can take them in Ireland”.
“The atmosphere at the UL Sport Arena is going to be amazing and I’m sure that the home supporters will lift the roof. There is nothing like playing before a home crowd, which is a huge advantage in a tough match like this. The support from Irish fans has been phenomenal and everyone is going to see some world class tennis over the two days”.
The Davis Cup is the World Cup of tennis. The Ireland Austria match is Ireland’s first home tie in the competition in nine years. Some of the world’s best players will compete in two singles on Saturday 3rd followed by a doubles and two further singles on Sunday 4th to decide which team will progress to World Group I.
The Austrian team includes Sebastian Ofner (ATP37), Dominic Thiem (ATP92) and Filip Misolic (ATP145), Austria’s current numbers one, two and four, along with Alexander Erler (ATP doubles 37) and Lucas Miedler (ATP doubles 41).
The Ireland team includes Osgar O’hOisin, Michael Agwi, Simon Carr, Conor Gannon and David O’Hare and have recorded wins over Georgia, Barbados and El Salvador to progress from Europe Group III into World Group II and now into the World Group I playoffs.
