The Kansas City Chiefs met the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in what was a key contest for both teams.

While the Bills were fighting to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot, the Chiefs were looking to maintain a firm hold on first place in the AFC West.

With just over a minute left in the fourth quarter, Kansas City trailed by three when it looked like it would win the game following a touchdown scored by wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

But the touchdown was called back because Toney was lined up offside prior to the snap, resulting in a loss for Kansas City.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was seen livid on the sideline afterward, and when he greeted Buffalo signal-caller Josh Allen once the game ended, he was heard uttering expletives.

Mahomes, per Ari Meirov, says he regrets doing so.

Whether they should or shouldn’t be, pro athletes, especially superstar athletes such as Mahomes, are role models, and they have standards to uphold when it comes to sportsmanship and proper respect for the officials who call the game.

Just about everyone agrees that the penalty on Toney was the correct call, and perhaps Mahomes’ anger was a culmination of frustration over some other calls or non-calls that have gone against his team.

Last week, when Kansas City lost to the Green Bay Packers, they felt defensive pass interference should’ve been called when Marquez Valdes-Scantling failed to make a catch near the end zone.

The Chiefs are now 8-5, and they’re just one game ahead of the surging Denver Broncos for first place in the AFC West.
