Besides being the most high-profile and successful player in the NFL, Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes is also a notable fan of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks.

And he responded like the rest of the Mavs faithful when the news broke that Klay Thompson signed a three-year, $50 million deal to take his talents to Texas.

Dallas had a solid regular season before getting hot in the playoffs, and it knew after the loss to the Celtics in five games in the Finals that it needed more than its current two-headed attack to get over that hump.

The Thompson signing goes a long way toward that goal, and the Chiefs quarterback was understandably thrilled.

Mahomes retweeted a post from Kansas City defensive end Charles Omenihu exclaiming that the LA fan wished “the Lakers got Klay.”

The quarterback added a good-natured smiley face emoji to express his satisfaction with the Mavericks’ move.

Omenihu’s Lakers were one of multiple suitors for Thompson, who felt slighted in Golden State and was widely expected to leave via free agency.

Thompson is a four-time NBA champion as the backcourt partner of Stephen Curry, and in his own right, he is a two-time All-NBA selection who averaged 17.9 points per game last season with the Warriors.

Now, he is teamed up with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in Dallas.

As for Mahomes, he is a Texas native with deep roots in the Lone Star State, having played collegiately at Texas Tech.

He is also a notable Mavericks fan, and after this week’s exciting signing, he has yet more reasons to be optimistic about his favorite NBA team.
