Coming into the 2024 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots were fully intent on drafting a potential franchise quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick, especially with all the talent available at that position at the top of the draft.

With the storied franchise moving on from legendary head coach Bill Belichick before this draft, the team was clearly ready to make a drastic change in philosophy and start a new era.

Ultimately, the Patriots watched the Chicago Bears bring in Caleb Williams at No. 1, with Jayden Daniels going to the Washington Commanders at No. 2, which led to the team drafting quarterback Drake Maye out of the University of North Carolina.

Ahead of Maye starting his playing career in the NFL with the Patriots, New England legend Devin McCourty has a message for the new rookie quarterback, via Carlos Talks Pats on Twitter.

“Just remember, as awesome as [draft] night is, it’s just the beginning. You’re walking into a culture — a history, that is built on winning championships,” he said as part of his long message.

So far, it has been all welcoming for Maye as he seems to be a popular pick by the team among the fans, media, and former players of the Patriots franchise, which is obviously a great sign moving forward.

However, Maye will have to earn his way to the starting spot in New England with the team recently bringing in veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who will likely be the starter right out of the gate in Week 1.

Although Brissett will likely be the starter, Maye will certainly have a chance to beat him out in training camp or if the veteran struggles during the regular season, meaning he could play sooner rather than later.
