Patriots Player Throws Shade At The Team Over Departing QB

The New England Patriots reportedly let rookie quarterback Malik Cunningham go this week after he was signed off the practice squad by the Baltimore Ravens.

Cunningham has been on the Patriots’ practice squad for all but one game this season and has yet to attempt a pass or run this year.

One Patriots player didn’t sound too thrilled when he heard the news of Cunningham’s departure.

Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown posted a photo of the news on his Instagram story with the words, “Go flourish where your talent is respected lil bradda.”

Oddly enough, Cunningham won’t have nearly as well a shot of getting into a game in Baltimore as he did in New England.

He will likely sit third on the Ravens’ depth chart behind starter Lamar Jackson – who was also a teammate of his in college at Louisville – and backup Tyler Huntley.

That, perhaps, is why Brown is confused by the move by his team.

Neither Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe have looked that good as the Patriots’ starter this season, but the team never attempted to see what Cunningham could do with a starting role.

Jones averages less than 200 passing yards per game and has more interceptions than touchdowns, Zappe has thrown for more than 141 yards in a game once this season: a 240-yard, three-touchdown performance this past week in a 21-18 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cunningham, meanwhile, threw for almost 10,000 yards and scored 120 total touchdowns in five collegiate seasons.

Now, that athleticism will be used in Baltimore.
