It is Week 8 of the 2024 NFL season, and for a number of teams, their chances of making the playoffs are seemingly on the line starting this week.

There was plenty of optimism coming into this season for the New York Jets, given the fact that quarterback Aaron Rodgers had recovered from the torn Achilles he suffered in Week 1 of 2023 and that they had assembled a talented roster on both sides of the football.

But instead of reversing many years of ineptitude, the Jets have succumbed to that history of ineptitude, and they have a 2-5 record and are on a four-game losing streak.

This Sunday, they will visit the New England Patriots, who are one of the few teams in the league that have a worse record than them right now.

Former NBA star Paul Pierce said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that Rodgers and the Jets “absolutely” have to come up with a win against the Patriots.

The Jets now have Davante Adams, the talented star wide receiver who spent eight seasons alongside Rodgers when both played for the Green Bay Packers, and they will get another proverbial shot in the arm this weekend.

Pass rusher Haason Reddick, whom they traded for during the offseason, is reportedly ending his contract extension-related holdout and will play against New England.

Another loss for New York would undoubtedly lead to tons of criticism from the national media, especially considering how high expectations were for them during the summer when plenty picked them to reach the AFC Championship Game.
