Paul Scholes Criticizes Mark Bosnich as Manchester United’s Most Disappointing Signing – Latest News on Man United Transfers

Paul Scholes labels "unprofessional" Mark Bosnich as Manchester United's worst signing - Man United News And Transfer News

Legendary Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has claimed that Mark Bosnich is the club’s worst-ever signing.

The Australian played in two separate spells at Old Trafford in 1990-1991 and also between 1999-2001.

He was signed with the unenviable task of replacing Peter Schmeichel in goal right after the club made history by becoming the first British side to win the treble in 1999.

Numerous players signed under Sir Alex Ferguson’s career were rip-roaring successes but even the great man signed some questionable choices such as Bebe, David Bellion and Eric Djemba-Djemba.

Nonetheless, despite playing with all these players, Scholes claimed that the former Villa keeper was the most disappointing of them all.

Speaking on The Overlap he claimed, “I go back to the goalkeepers, when you had to try and replace Peter Schmeichel, which is always going to be difficult. We had a few. I was thinking [Massimo] Taibi, Mark Bosnich.”

Elaborating on his choice of the Australian he stated, “I thought he was a good keeper at Villa, Mark Bosnich. He came to us, he was so unprofessional. Honestly, it was ridiculous. In shooting practice, you normally have like 15, 20 shots. After three shots, he’s knackered. ‘Oh no, get someone else in’.”

The former midfielder then also highlighted what he thought Bosnich’s biggest weakness was, his ability to kick the ball.

He recalled the first game of the season away to Everton where the keeper could barely kick the ball to the half-way line in spite of there being no wind and perfect conditions.

“I never realised, he couldn’t kick a football. I’ve never seen anything like it. But when you look at his feet, size 14s, honestly he was just kicking the floor all the time! Disappointing.”

Scholes is not the first person to criticise the Australian keeper’s professionalism. His sentiments have been echoed by his former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, who claimed that he was a “terrible professional” who could not control his weight.

The Fairfield native would move on to Chelsea, only making seven appearances for the Londoners in three seasons after his failed attempt at replacing Schmeichel.
