Paul triumphs at Wimbledon in a thrilling match

With the weather delaying the start of today’s play and possibly upsetting the schedule during the day it was a matter of making the most of the time available to ensure quick passage into the last 16.

I’m really happy to get that match done today; I thought I played awesome. I didn’t miss too much at all Tommy Paul

That fact was uppermost in Tommy Paul’s mind as he stormed through his third-round match in 85-minutes to oust Alexander Bublik 6-3 6-4 6-2.

“I played very well, I didn’t make too many mistakes,” the beaming Queen’s club champion said. “I was pretty nervous before the match. You don’t really know when you’re going to go on with the rain and we got a nice little window here. I’m really happy to get that match done today; I thought I played awesome. I didn’t miss too much at all.”

And ith reference to the unstable weather conditions, added: “All the players were in the gym all morning long and we’re just seeing the bubble over the court going up and down. We’re trying to figure out when we’re going to get on court. It was kind of weird; all of us, we just had to stay ready. My team and I – we did a good job. We came out here really warm and ready to go.”

And Bublik, not the most consistent of players, was certainly not as well prepared for the American’s onslaught which saw Paul deliver 37 winners, 9 aces and only 14 unforced errors. In reply the Kazak hit 15 aces and 28 winners and made 21unforced errors.

Bublik is a volatile player and which makes him a very interesting one whe he is on song. This time he was contained by the 12th seeded 27-year-old from New Jersey, who broke him early in all three sets to stamp his authority on the match.
