Guardiola Expresses Regret Following Altercation with Cameraman
Pep Guardiola has expressed feelings of “embarrassment and shame” concerning his encounter with a cameraman after Manchester City’s recent 2-1 loss to Newcastle United. This incident took place at St James’ Park, where Guardiola appeared to have a heated exchange with the cameraman on the field.
In addition, the manager was seen engaged in intense discussions with both the referee, Samuel Barrott, and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, following the defeat. During a press conference on Monday, he was asked about his remarks towards the cameraman and acknowledged his regret, stating, “I feel embarrassed, ashamed when I see it. I don’t like it. I apologized after one second to the cameraman.”
Guardiola further reflected, “I am who I am. After 1,000 games I’m not a perfect person; I make huge mistakes. It’s not about that. What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. The reason why is I want to defend my team and my club.”
In a tense press briefing before Bayer Leverkusen’s upcoming match against City in the Champions League, Guardiola also alluded to the situation of Argentine player Claudio Echeverri, who is currently on loan at Leverkusen. Guardiola expressed disappointment over Echeverri’s lack of playtime in the Bundesliga.
He mentioned, “Always, I would love that players play a lot of minutes, the intention is always there. We have an incredible appreciation for him as a football player. I am sure, pretty sure, his agent will know everything.” When asked about the possibility of Echeverri returning to City in January, Guardiola quipped, “It is a question for his beautiful agent.”
