Peter Crouch lauds the outstanding performances of Marcus Rashford and Andre Onana at Manchester United – Latest updates on Man United’s form and transfers

Southampton 0 - 3 Manchester United: Player Ratings - Man United News And Transfer News

Peter Crouch was impressed with what he saw from Marcus Rashford in Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Southampton yesterday.

Rashford has been under fire for an extended period of poor form but looked more like his old self yesterday, capping off a positive performance by scoring United’s second with a perfectly placed curler into the far corner.

Speaking on TNT Sports after the game, Crouch said:

“Maybe at times the mentality’s been questioned.

“But if he gets back to anything like [his best], United have got a top, top player again.

“Listen, he’s not there yet, it’s only one game. But I thought there were lots of positives.

“He takes a hammering and I feel sorry for him at times.

“He has got so much talent. There was a certain hunger to him today. Look at the pace and how dynamic the running is. I definitely thought he was sharper than he was in previous weeks.”

Crouch also spoke highly of Andre Onana, whose first half penalty save proved to be pivotal in United taking the three points.

The goalkeeper is another player whose erratic form has placed him under scrutiny since his arrival at the club a year ago.

“I think he has got the mentality to be at a big club,” Crouch said.

“I remember speaking to Rio [Ferdinand] after a couple of high profile errors. And [Ferdinand recalled Onana saying] ‘It’s football’. Bounces off him.

“If you are going to be at Man United, where the scrutiny is intense, it’s cut throat business. And he seems to take it in his stride.”

Summing up the performance, Crouch said it was “a perfect afternoon for Man United really.”
