After what was considered to be a down year during the regular season, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs were still able to win the AFC West division title and punch their ticket to the NFL playoffs.

Along with returning to the postseason after what looked like the end of a dominant era for Patrick Mahomes and company, Andy Reid’s squad wiped the floor with the competition, winning three straight games against the best teams in the AFC to advance to the Super Bowl again.

Fortunately for the Chiefs, Kansas City was able to go toe-to-toe with what the NFC had in store, as the San Francisco 49ers couldn’t outlast the battled-tested team, as they went on to win a second straight title.

One of the key members of the Chiefs that helped propel this team to victory was defensive tackle Chris Jones, who actually held out through training camp and the first regular-season game.

During an appearance on “First Things First,” Peter Schrager of FOX Sports claimed that Jones is the most underrated player on this Chiefs squad and a surefire Hall of Famer.

“If Chris Jones never plays another snap, he’s a Hall of Famer,” Schrager said. “He’s the most underrated player of this entire Chiefs run. … He wants to be a Chief. The Chiefs want him. Chris Jones belongs in a Chiefs uniform.”

With Jones proving to be worth every penny of the one-year deal Kansas City agreed to, it’ll be interesting to see what happens during the NFL offseason when contract talks get back underway.

If Schrager is correct, it may be a much quicker and smoother negotiation compared to last season.
