Peter Schrager Says AFC Team Should Try To Trade For Cooper Kupp

The Kansas City Chiefs faced a major setback on Sunday when Rashee Rice potentially suffered a torn ACL, sidelining their top receiver for the remainder of the season.

This unexpected turn of events has sparked discussions about potential replacements, with trade and free agent options being explored.

During “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd, NFL Network’s Peter Schrager proposed an intriguing target for the Chiefs: Rams superstar Cooper Kupp.

Schrager suggested a proactive approach, stating, “I said this and I got a lot of pushback – it doesn’t come from the Rams guys – but I would call on Cooper Kupp. I would see. I would call every team.”

While Schrager emphasized he wasn’t reporting any inside information or suggesting the Rams would actually trade Kupp, he highlighted the Rams’ 1-3 start and Kupp’s substantial contract as factors that make the scenario worth considering.

He added, “Look, I love Kupp, I know Stafford loves Kupp, and I know McVay loves Kupp, so they’re probably not going to trade Kupp, but it doesn’t hurt to call.”

The timing of this speculation is notable, as Kupp is currently sidelined with an injury and isn’t expected to return until Week 7 at the earliest.

This, combined with the Rams’ challenging start to the season, adds an interesting dimension to the discussion.

Kupp’s contract situation further complicates matters. With two years remaining on his current deal, the Rams have a potential out after this season.

Cutting him would result in $22.3 million in dead money but would save the team approximately $7.5 million overall.

This financial aspect has led to speculation that this could be Kupp’s final season with the Rams.

As the Chiefs navigate their receiver crisis and teams around the league assess their positions, the coming weeks could see significant movement in the trade market.

Whether Kupp or another high-profile receiver becomes available remains to be seen, but the Chiefs’ need for a top-tier pass-catcher is clear.
