Two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Peyton Manning set a ton of records throughout his storied 18-year career with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos and is undoubtedly one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to play the game.

That being said, he still holds one unfortunate record and seems to be ready for somebody to take it from him.

Manning recently appeared on Bussin’ With The Boys with former NFL players Taylor Lewan and Will Compton and discussed his rookie interception record of 28 picks, and he said “I mean, Mahomes is breaking every other record, why can’t we break that record? The problem is when they struggle early with picks, they take them out…leave ’em in there! Let them learn! I’m over it. Eli (Manning) would have broken it easily, he only started six games.”

Manning was having fun with it, but he was realistic in understanding this is a tough record to break given how careful quarterbacks are with the ball these days combined with the fact that, as he said, most rookies would get pulled before being given the chance to throw that many interceptions.

The only rookies who have even come close to making a run at the record in recent years were DeShone Kizer and his 22 picks in 2017, Geno Smith’s 21 picks in 2013, and Mark Sanchez and Matthew Stafford’s 20 each in 2009,

No other rookie has thrown over 20 interceptions in a season since 1979, and even if you remove the rookie distinction, Manning, Brett Favre, and Jameis Winston are the only players to throw at least 28 picks in a season since 1988.

Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Bo Nix are all Week 1 rookie starters this year, but Peyton might still be holding onto this record for quite a while.
