The MLB All-Star Game will be played in Arlington, Texas, this year, with Globe Life Field the place where some of the best players in the world will showcase their talents for the world to enjoy on July 16.

The 2024 Home Run Derby will take place one day before that, on July 15.

The Derby has traditionally been one of the most viewed events of the All-Star festivities, as fans love the demonstrations of raw power.

This year’s competition is still taking shape, and the league is trying to lure participants. Before Friday, there was only one confirmed player: Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson.

Now, a Philadelphia Phillies slugger has joined him.

That’s right: Alec Bohm, who was one of the top hitters in MLB in the first few weeks, will be there to show off his power in the Derby.

Bohm is having the best year of his career to date, slashing .296/.347/.488 with 11 home runs, 70 RBIs and an .835 OPS for the first-place Phillies.

Philadelphia has been so good and consistent over the first three months of the season in part because of Bohm’s breakout.

The third baseman doesn’t have 40-homer power, but his long legs and arms make for some exciting batting practice performances, so he should be a good fit for the competition.

He is already up to 40 extra-base hits this year, with 28 doubles, one triple and his 11 home runs.

The league should start revealing more names as we get closer to the competition.
