The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding a new wide receiver to the group ahead of training camp.

According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the team is signing back second-year player Jacob Copeland to a one-year deal.

Copeland spent part of 2023 with Pittsburgh on their practice squad.

That official deal is worth $795,000.

Judging by that amount, the team may not be expecting the former undrafted wide receiver to make it out of training camp and onto the final roster.

Copeland has been on a journey since entering the league out of Maryland in 2023.

In 2023, along with the Steelers, he played on the practice squads of the Tennessee Titans and the Minnesota Vikings.

So far in 2024, he has spent time on the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs and is now back in Pittsburgh.

Copeland has never played in an NFL game during his short career, but he surely is looking to flip the script while with the Steelers.

Before transferring to Maryland in 2023, he spent the first four years of his college career at Florida.

His best collegiate season came in 2021 with the Gators when he caught 41 passes for 642 yards and four touchdowns.

In Pittsburgh, it is a crowded wide receiver room.

The likes of 1,000-yard receiver George Pickens, former Super Bowl champions Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller, rookie Roman Wilson, etc. are all high up on the depth chart.

If the six-foot Copeland wants to make an impact on the team this summer, he is going to have to play without flaws.
