Pochettino reveals coaching staff for US Men’s National Team

Mauricio Pochettino announces USMNT coaching staff

Mauricio Pochettino has officially assembled his coaching staff for his new role with the U.S. men’s national team.

Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino, Antonio Jimenez, Sebastiano Pochettino, and Silvia Tuya Viñas have been appointed to Pochettino’s staff, as announced by U.S. Soccer on Monday. The majority of the hires have previous experience working with Pochettino in various stages of his coaching career, while Viñas is a new addition.

“I speak on behalf of our entire staff when I express our excitement and pride in having the opportunity to work with these players and the U.S. Men’s National Team,” said Pochettino. “Together, we bring a wealth of experience and a clear methodology to our work. We aim to leverage this experience, build relationships with the players both on and off the field, share our expertise, and as a cohesive unit, help the team achieve its objectives.”

Perez will take on the role of Pochettino’s first assistant coach. He initially joined Pochettino as an analyst during his early days at Espanyol before progressing to become an assistant coach at each subsequent European club where Pochettino was appointed.

D’Agostino will also serve as an assistant coach, having played with Pochettino at Newell’s Old Boys. He joined Pochettino early in his tenure at Espanyol and has continued to follow the manager to each of his subsequent top European club appointments.

Jimenez will be responsible for coaching the USMNT goalkeepers under Pochettino. A gold medalist with Spain at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Jimenez enjoyed a successful professional goalkeeping career spanning over 350 appearances. He has been working with Pochettino since 2011.

Pochettino will assume the role of sport scientist for the USMNT, collaborating with his father. He gained recognition as one of the youngest sport scientists in the Premier League through his work with Tottenham and Chelsea.

Viñas is a recent addition to Pochettino’s staff, taking on the role of strength and conditioning coach for the USMNT. With a PhD in sport science, she most recently served at FC Levante Badalona in Liga F, Spain’s top tier of women’s professional soccer.

Former USMNT assistant coach Vincent Cavin has mutually departed the program. Cavin previously worked under former USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter.
