Potential absence of Scott McTominay could leave Erik ten Hag short for Crystal Palace clash and beyond – Latest Man United Updates on Transfers

Erik ten Hag could be without Scott McTominay for Crystal Palace game and even beyond - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United conceded yet another late goal as they were held to a 1-1 draw by 19th placed Burnley in their Premier League game at Old Trafford on Saturday.

After displaying a certain degree of control and patience against Sheffield United in midweek, the hope was the team would continue in the same vein against the Clarets.

But Erik ten Hag seems to be doubling down and the team reverted to type and chaos ball ensued with both teams taking turns in attacking.

Vincent Kompany’s men found it very easy to bypass the entire United press, much like all other teams this season, and if not for some fine saves from Andre Onana, an even bigger shock was in store.

McTominay’s injury

Searching for the opener, Ten Hag once again turned to super sub Scott McTominay and even played him as an auxiliary striker at times.

The goal eventually came from Antony while the Scot ended up suffering an injury and he was seen grimacing in pain and appeared to indicate it was a serious injury.

The substitute had to be subbed off in added time and he headed straight down the tunnel as fit-again Mason Mount entered the fray.

After the game, Ten Hag said the midfielder is unlikely to be fit for the Crystal Palace game and while prognosis is still on, both United and Scotland are holding their breaths over the final outcome.

“We have to assess this, to set the diagnosis. I don’t know in this moment to return [against Crystal Palace next month],” Ten Hag was quoted as saying.

“I think it’s a little bit too quick turnaround. You have seen he has a problem. We have to diagnose this and see what it is.”

Big blow for both United and Scotland

It is no secret that McTominay’s goals have been worth 12 extra points for the Red Devils and with the FA Cup final coming up, he could be a huge miss. He is even more crucial for Scotland who are gearing up for this summer’s European Championships.

As many as nine key players are missing for United and injuries have played a key role in a disastrous season for the club and the manager.

Ten Hag will be hoping to get back McTominay before the Wembley showpiece event due to his knack for coming up with crucial goals.

The player’s future, however, remains uncertain. There have been rumours of a possible sale while other reports have indicated INEOS’ desire to keep the academy graduate and offer him a new deal on improved terms.
