Potential move for former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to take over as Everton coach gathers steam

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a "strong candidate" to become next Everton coach - Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a candidate to become Everton’s new coach.

The “special one” was at United from 2016-2018, where he won the Europa League and Carabao cup.

His third season at Old Trafford burst into flames and he was sacked in December 2018. He has since gone on to Tottenham Hotspur, Roma and is currently at Fenerbahce.

The Portuguese’s side currently sit second in the Turkish Super Lig, three points behind Galatasaray.

He will get the chance to face United in a rematch with his former club after the international break when United travel to Turkiye to take on Fenerbahce in the third match of their Europa League campaign.

Football Insider reports that the 61 year old may not be in Turkiye much longer though.

Sources have told them that “Jose Mourinho is a ‘strong option’ to take over from Sean Dyche at Everton once Dan Friedkin completes his takeover”.

Despite Mourinho only joining his current club in the summer, sources have told the website, “don’t rule Jose out.”

“Friedkin has a history with Mourinho after appointing him at his other top European club Roma in 2021 following his turbulent spell at Tottenham.”

The probable new owner of the Toffees reportedly does not see current manager Sean Dyche as a “viable long-term manager of the club and the right manager to lead them out at the new stadium.”

Mourinho would certainly add a dimension of glitz and glamour to a new era at the Liverpudlian club and could certainly be tempted by a return to English football.

Whilst he has the chance to compete for league titles and play European football at Fenerbahce, a move to one of England’s most historical football clubs might just be too tempting to turn down.
