President’s Cup matches delayed due to fog, impacting Sunday singles potential

Fog delays 2024 Presidents Cup & what it could mean for Sunday singles

MONTREAL – Team USA faced challenging weather conditions on Friday and continued to deal with foggy skies on Saturday during the 2024 Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club.

The first session of the tournament was delayed due to the weather, potentially impacting the completion of the afternoon foursomes session. Officials adjusted tee times for the fourth session to run between 2:20 p.m. ET and 3:02 p.m. ET, with pairings to be announced around 1:40 p.m. The singles matchups may not be revealed until Sunday morning, as matches are set to start at 12:02 p.m.

Play was briefly suspended during the first four-ball match, which began at 7:02 a.m. ET, and the second match got underway before the delay. The interruption lasted for one hour and 37 minutes.

After favorable weather in the preceding days, Saturday brought fog and reduced visibility, leading officials to reschedule the morning session’s final matches.

Despite allowing for a potential delay, officials had to extend the pause due to the conditions.

Maintaining a good pace of play is crucial to completing the matches on time, especially with the sunset scheduled for 6:39 p.m. ET. Foursomes play, with one ball per team, usually moves more swiftly.

The fog cleared, allowing play to resume at 9:00 a.m. ET, on what turned out to be another picturesque day in Quebec, Canada.
