Preview and Predictions: Berrettini vs. Duckworth, Struff vs. Nakashima in Stuttgart Quarterfinals

Stuttgart QF previews and predictions: Berrettini vs. Duckworth, Struff vs. Nakashima

The oft-injured Matteo Berrettini has advanced to the quarterfinals in Stuttgart this week with a pair of wins. In the upcoming matches, Jan-Lennard Struff will face off against Brandon Nakashima.

(PR) Matteo Berrettini vs. (Q) James Duckworth

Matteo Berrettini from Italy has had a challenging time on the ATP tour due to injuries. Despite being ranked No. 95 in the world, he has dealt with various injuries over the past year. Currently in Stuttgart, Berrettini seems to be in good health as he secured victories over Roman Safiullin and Denis Shapovalov to reach the quarterfinals. Originally set to face Ben Shelton, he will now play against Australian qualifier James Duckworth.

On grass, Berrettini excels, and if he remains healthy, he is likely to progress further in the tournament. As a finalist in the 2021 Wimbledon, he thrives on this surface.

(7) Jan-Lennard Struff vs. Brandon Nakashima

Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany is having a standout season at 34 years old. He recently clinched his first tournament win in Munich. While historically performing better on clay, Struff has managed to secure straight-set victories over Flavio Cobolli and Arthur Rinderknech to reach the quarterfinals.

American player Brandon Nakashima has not had the same success as his strong 2022 season. With a 6-7 record this year and currently ranked world No. 70, Nakashima has been working on improving his ranking by competing in Challenger events. While he has some wins on grass from previous tournaments, Struff is currently in better overall form.
