Interim Aberdeen boss Peter Leven made one enforced change from the Dons’ 0-0 draw with Dundee in their last Scottish Premiership match, as they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup on penalties following a crazy 3-3 draw with Celtic.

Kelle Roos continued behind an unchanged Dons defence consisting of Nicky Devlin, Angus MacDonald, Stefan Gartenmann and Jack MacKenzie. Connor Barron and Dante Polvara, replacing suspended skipper Graeme Shinnie, were in midfield.

Duk started on the left hand side, with Jamie McGrath on the right. Leighton Clarkson was starting slightly more advanced in the middle of the park, supporting lone striker Bojan Miovski in the Aberdeen attack.

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell made two changes after the Steelmen’s crazy comeback to win 3-2 against Dundee at Dens Park, before they missed out on the top six thanks to a 1-1 draw with Hibs at Fir Park the weekend before last.

Liam Kelly remained between the sticks as Shane Blaney, Paul McGinn and Dan Casey continued in an unchanged Well back three. Georgie Gent carried on at left wing-back, with Stephen O’Donnell replacing Adam Devine on the right.

Lennon Miller took Andy Halliday’s place to join Davor Zdravkovski at the heart of the Motherwell midfield. Blair Spittal looked to provide for strike duo Jack Vale and Theo Bair.

Prediction

Ninth meets eighth, as Aberdeen and Motherwell go toe-to-toe at Pittodrie with both teams looking to finish the Scottish Premiership season strongly.

The Dons are looking to put some Hampden heartache behind them after a classic Scottish Cup semi-final in which they took the lead, scored a late leveller in 90 minutes, and forced penalty kicks after a dramatic equaliser in extra-time against Scottish Cup holders Celtic. Aberdeen could leapfrog Motherwell with a victory here, looking to pull away from the relegation playoff place.

Motherwell couldn’t sneak into the top six after they were held at home by Hibernian in a 1-1 draw, before their result was effectively meaningless as Dundee picked up the point they needed against Rangers in their rearranged fixture anyway. The Well will wonder what could have been, given the woeful run they went on from mid September until December (15 games without a win).

Aberdeen won both trips to Fir Park earlier on in the campaign, with the last game at Pittodrie producing six goals in which Motherwell blew a three goal lead, and the Dons will look to take last weekend’s positives to sneak past the Steelmen on Saturday.
