The 2024 Bad Homburg Open is the final WTA 500 tournament before Wimbledon, and the draw has already been released.
Wimbledon is fast approaching, and in the final week of preparations, from June 23rd to 29th, the Bad Homburg Open will be played. The tournament will serve as the final preparation for many players ahead of the grass-court major.
One of those is the top seed, Maria Sakkari, who hasn’t had a really good grass season so far. She only played one match so far and lost to Victoria Azarenka easily in two sets at the Berlin Open.
In the opening round of this event, she will face Elisabetta Cocciaretto. The Italian will not be an easy opponent for the Greek player, especially after she recently split with her coach.
Bianca Andreescu has been playing really strong tennis recently. She bested Naomi Osaka at the Libema Open, where she narrowly missed out on her first trophy since 2019.
She’s a former finalist in Bad Homburg, signaling that she could replicate her effort from Den Bosch and possibly go even further. Her first match will be against Anna Blinkova, who will provide a proper test for the Canadian.
17-year-old prodigy Mirra Andreeva will also play at the 2024 Bad Homburg Open. She will have a brutal start, despite being the eighth seed, taking on Dayana Yastremska, whom she beat in the past.
The teenager had a good Wimbledon last year, so she can certainly play well on grass, but playing this year’s Australian Open semi-finalist will be a proper challenge for the Russian.
Some other interesting matchups include the match between Paula Badosa against Arantxa Rus as the Spaniard tries to find some good from ahead of Wimbledon. Another fascinating match will be played between two mothers, Elina Svitolina and Caroline Wozniacki.
