Pro golfer enlists fan’s aid in Fluff Cowan’s Canada tumble

PGA Tour player asks fan to help after Fluff Cowan fall in Canada

C.T. Pan used four caddies during the final round of the RBC Canadian Open after his regular looper Fluff Cowan was injured on the 3rd hole…

Legendary caddie Mike ‘Fluff’ Cowan was forced to the sidelines during the final round of the RBC Canadian Open.

While caddying for C.T. Pan on the 3rd hole at Hamilton Golf and Country Club, Cowan fell in the undulating and wet Sunday conditions in Ontario.

NBC Sports quoted a PGA Tour official who confirmed that Cowan was taken to the clubhouse to be treated for “non-serious” injuries.

Footage showed Cowan, 76, getting to his feet and carrying Pan’s bag a little longer before being replaced by a random fan called Paul Emerson from the crowd through the 5th fairway. A member of the caddie services team Michael Campbell then took over.

“We were walking down the 3rd fairway and we were watching (Shane) Lowry and Pan hit their approach shots, then restarted walking up the hole,” Emerson said on a clip recorded by SCOREGolf.

“We heard a big, big tumble and a big sound – and we saw him on the ground and he couldn’t get up, or he was getting up very, very slowly – So we watched it happen, and then Lowry picked up his own bag, Lowry’s caddie picked up Pan’s bag and started walking up the hole.

“C.T. was walking off the hole to a medic, just helping him off, and I just said to him, ‘Do you need a hand?’ And he said, ‘Yes please’, so I helped Fluff get the bib off and I threw it on, and I started walking up the hole.”

Canadian journalist Adam Stanley reported that Al Ridell, the caddie of PGA Tour player Paul Barjon, took the reins for the back nine. Ridell lives in Hamilton and allegedly knows Pan from their days in the PGA Tour Canada division.

Stanley posted footage of Pan’s playing partner Shane Lowry shaking hands with Ridell, his fourth caddie, and joking, “That’s a fu***** record now!”

Cowan has been working for Pan, who won a bronze medal at the Olympic games in 2021, since the WM Phoenix Open in February. Having caddied for former US Open champion Jim Furyk for 25 years, Furyk encouraged Cowan to join Pan after being sidelined with frequent injuries.

Cowan caddied for Tiger Woods in the early days of his career and Peter Jacobsen before that.
