Defending champion KK Buducnost VOLI Podgorica (Erste Liga) strengthened their roster with the addition of 32-year-old Slovenian ex-international 216cm center Alen Omic. It is actually his comeback to Podgorica as he has played here before. Omic played most recently at Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana in the Slovenian Liga Nova KBM. He managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year. In 6 Liga Nova KBM games, he recorded 14.7ppg, 7.8rpg, and 4.0apg, helping them to win the league title. Omic was awarded Eurobasket.com All-Slovenian League Finals MVP for his great season. He also played 9 games in the ABA League, averaging 12.4ppg, 10.3rpg, and 2.3apg. The other team he played for that season was Metropolitans in French Betclic ELITE ProA, where he had impressive stats in 12 games: 15.6ppg, 10.1rpg, and 2.6apg. Omic was also voted League Player of the Week.

He tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2015. Omic was also a member of the Slovenian international program for some years, playing for the Slovenian Senior National Team between 2014 and 2021, and previously for the U20 National Team in 2012. He represented Slovenia at the Qualifications to European Championship (FIBA EuroBasket) in 2017. His stats at that event were 6.7ppg, 6.0rpg, FGP: 59.3%, FT: 44.4%.

Omic has played professionally in China (Guangxi), Israel (Hapoel Jerusalem), Italy, Serbia (Crvena zvezda), Spain (Joventut, Unicaja, and Gran Canaria), Turkey (Efes), and France (JL Bourg) among other countries. He received the Eurobasket.com All-EuroCup European Player of the Year award back in 2016.
