Esenler Erokspor Istanbul (TBL) inked 28-year old 206cm center Metehan Akyel. Akyel played most recently at Turk Telekom (BSL). In 13 games he recorded 3.2ppg and 2.9rpg last season. TBL will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. He also played 12 games in Eurocup where he averaged just 2.4ppg and 2.3rpg.
The previous (2022-23) season he played at Buyukcekmece (BSL). In 29 games he had 3.8ppg and 2.7rpg in that year.
Akyel represented Turkey at the European Championship (FIBA EuroBasket) U20 in Helsinki (Finland) eight years ago. Akyel’s team won Bronze and his stats at that event were 7 games: 4.4ppg, 3.3rpg.
He has played previously for five other teams: Gaziantep, Bandirma, Bursaspor, TEKSUT Bandirma BK and Petkimspor.
Among many awards his team made it to the Turkish President Cup final in 2018. He was voted to Eurobasket.com Turkish TBL All-Newcomers Team back in 2018.
