World No. 1 Sinner defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2 today to reach the Shanghai Rolex Masters round of 16.

Afterward, Sinner was asked to set the record straight on reports he was engaged or married after his US Open victory.

The top-seeded Sinner said reports the couple wed or that he proposed to WTA star Kalinskaya are “false news” and news to him.

“It was new also for me, to be honest,” Sinner said prompting laughter in his post-match presser. “No, I didn’t ask, and nothing, nothing happened.

“I just read the details a little bit that it happened after US Open, but it’s all false, false news. Thank you.”

Next up for Sinner is a Shanghai round-of-16 date with either Ben Shelton or Roberto Carballes Baena.
