Promising Academy Player Jack Fletcher Nominated for Premier League 2 Award – Manchester United Updates and Transfers

Academy Match Report: Blackburn Rovers u21s 1-3 Manchester United u21s - Man United News And Transfer News

One of the most exciting academy prospects at Carrington is in contention for the season’s first Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

Jack Fletcher’s bright start to the campaign has seen him get nominated for the prize, despite missing the opening fixture.

But the 17-year-old, who is taking his first steps with the Manchester United U21s, chipped in with a goal and two assists as Travis Binnion’s team got their season back on track.

Fletcher, the son of United legend Darren Fletcher, was on the scoresheet as the Red Devils beat Stoke City 4-1 at Leigh Sports Village Stadium.

He then chipped in with two assists last weekend, teeing up Sam Mather and Gabriele Biancheri in the 3-1 victory at Blackburn Rovers.

The promising young Scot is one of six players nominated for the August Player of the Month award.

He is joined on the shortlist by Joshua Ajala (West Ham), Kyle McAdam (Nottingham Forest), Lewis Orford (West Ham) and Kristian Sekularac (Fulham).

Khayon Edwards and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, both of Arsenal, complete the six. Both were on target against on the first day of the season as the Gunners sank United 4-2.

Despite his Premier League 2 nomination, Fletcher was arguably most impressive in the EFL Trophy.

His late brace dragged United to a memorable 3-2 win against Barnsley, with the team overturning a 0-2 deficit with just 10 minutes left on the clock.

Fletcher made a big impression with the U18s last season, racking up a goal and four assists in 14 appearances.

And his potential has caught the eye of Erik ten Hag, who brought him into first-team training following their disappointing defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Fletcher was also on United’s pre-season tour of the USA, the youngest member of the squad to make the trip.
