Quarterfinal Preview: Rune vs. Fils – Hamburg Tennis Match Analysis and Predictions

Hamburg tennis QF preview, picks, and prediction: Rune vs. Fils

Controversial Dane Holger Rune will take on the up-and-comer Arther Fils from France in Hamburg as the tour wraps up preparation for the Olympic games.

Holger Rune is no stranger to making tennis headlines. Sometimes it’s for his results and sometimes it’s for…other things. Recently, former coach Boris Becker sent a Tweet speculating whether Rune had once again parted ways with on again-off again coach Patrick Mouratoglou. Rune was quick to reply:

It has been all business for Rune in Hamburg this week. The world No. 17 has a pair of wins on the clay courts of Hamburg over Fabian Marozsan and Marco Trungelliti to earn his spot against Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals.

Fils, the fast-rising French player, sits at a career high No. 28 in the world. He has played one previous match on clay against Rune at the Rome Masters, where Rune won in easy straight sets. It may not be quite as easy this time. Fils played well at Wimbledon, making the round of 16, and he is preparing to play in front of the home crowd at the Paris Olympics in a bit over a week.

I’m still picking Rune, as he is a better clay-court player than Fils is–but this one may be closer than last time. Look for the No. 2 seed to advance at least one more round.
