Emma Raducanu will stay with her current coach for a little longer, according to former British number one.
Raducanu worked with her former coach, Nick Cavaday, during this grass season, and it worked out well for her. She had a good run in Nottingham, which she followed up with a great win over Jessica Pegula at the Eastbourne International.
She then made her way to Wimbledon, winning a few matches before running into an inspired Lulu Sun, who ended her run. It was a disappointing finish for Raducanu, but overall, it was a positive experience, and it seems like she will stick with Cavaday as a coach despite her previous episodes of frequent coaching changes.
Raducanu has changed many coaches since becoming a professional player, and many urged her not to do so. Once a player can find stability, they can focus on improving as a player, and it seems like she finally found that.
Former British WTA player Jo Durie, who peaked at the World No. 5 position, talked about her younger compatriot to Grosvenor Sport, admitting that it was simply a trust thing as she had known him for a long time.
“It is a trust thing. She knew Nick from her early days. You have got to have trust in the people around you as you’re making plans and dreams together. That is the most important thing in my mind. She is working well with him and it is showing.”
Durie also touched upon Raducanu’s frequent coaching changes, suggesting that the British player moves on quickly if she thinks there is nothing more to be learned.
“Emma likes to take knowledge and move on. That is the way she did it. Is it right or wrong? It is not something I would personally have done. I liked a long term plan. Maybe now she will be with Nick a bit longer as she works on her plan and the way she sees the future. It does look like she is more settled.”
