To kick off Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season, the Miami Dolphins are set to host the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football. Both teams secured wins in Week 1, with Miami edging out the Jaguars 20-17 on a last-second field goal by Jason Sanders, and Buffalo staging a comeback to defeat the Cardinals 34-28.
Injury concerns loom for both teams as RBs Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achance sustained injuries in Week 1. Mostert, who only had six carries in the previous game, has been ruled out for Thursday’s matchup against the Bills due to a chest injury according to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques. Achane, dealing with an ankle injury, is considered a game-time decision. This presents a challenging situation for Miami’s backfield at the start of the 2024 season.

Following his injury in the Week 1 victory over the Jaguars, Mostert will be sidelined for the Bills game. Despite his potential to play in a Sunday matchup, the short turnaround for a Thursday night game is not sufficient for the veteran RB to recover. Mostert, who excelled last season with 21 total touchdowns, was on the field for 44% of Miami’s offensive snaps in Week 1, with limited production.
In the absence of Mostert, Achane emerged as the leading rusher for the Dolphins in Week 1 with 10 carries. Jeff Wilson Jr. also contributed significantly with 26 rushing yards on only five carries. Achane showcased his versatility with seven receptions for 76 yards. As a rookie last season, Achane played in 11 games for the Dolphins, averaging 72.7 rushing yards per game. The third-round pick out of Texas A&M faces uncertainty for the Bills game, potentially paving the way for Wilson Jr. and rookie Jaye Wright to step up in the backfield.
