Raphael Varane, Former Manchester United Defender, Contemplating Retirement Due to Ongoing Injury Concerns – Latest Updates on Varane’s Future

Ex-Man United defender Raphael Varane considering retirement from football as injury struggles persist - Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is reportedly considering hanging up his boots as he continues to deal with injuries and fitness concerns.

Varane left United in the summer upon the expiry of his contract.

The Frenchman joined Serie A side Como on a free transfer but endured a nightmare start to life at the club as he sustained a serious injury on his debut.

He picked up a knee issue during Como’s first round of the Coppa Italia at Sampdoria back in August.

The ex-United man was on the pitch for only 23 minutes before he was forced to come off and was replaced by Edoardo Goldaniga at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Varane was subsequently removed from Como’s Serie A squad after his latest injury setback, leaving his future with Cesc Fabregas’ side in limbo.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Varane is “considering to retire” from professional football.

It’s understood that the 31-year-old is “about to terminate his contract” at Como.

During his three-year tenure at Old Trafford, Varane was no stranger to the sidelines. He never managed more than 24 Premier League appearances in each of his three seasons at United.

Since the start of the 2021/22 campaign, the World Cup winner has suffered up to 12 separate physical setbacks.

In that period, Varane missed a grand total of 49 games.

The four-time Champions League winner managed two goals and one assist in the 95 matches he featured in for the Red Devils.

Varane helped United to win the Carabao Cup in 2023 and to life the FA Cup 12 months later as the club beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Wembley.
