Recap: French Open Quarter Finals Day 10, 2024

french open recap

On Day 10 at Roland Garros, two of the men’s quarterfinals were played, with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz progressing into Friday’s semi-finals. Sinner was the first to move into the last four, cruising through his match against Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets, probably the most straightforward match he’s had so far in Paris. Carlos Alcaraz then maintained his perfect record against Stefanos Tsitsipas with a straightforward 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-4 win in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Off the court, the story of the day was Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal from his quarterfinal with Casper Ruud due to the knee injury he aggravated against Cerundolo. A scan showed a tear in the meniscus, so he could be out for several weeks. He should probably speak to Federer about the best course of action, given that was the injury he returned from successfully in 2017 but also ended his career in 2022.

Superior Sinner Too Slick for Dimitrov

Jannik Sinner is in the Paris semi-finals after a commanding victory over Grigor Dimitrov on Tuesday. The Italian secured a 6-2, 6-4, 7-6(3) win and was largely untroubled against the 10th seed. The 22-year-old dominated the two-hour, 30-minute playing with high intensity, hitting 29 winners and breaking Dimitrov’s serve four times in a one-sided quarterfinal. Sinner is now set to rise to the world number one ranking following Djokovic’s withdrawal.
