Recap of American Soccer Players Overseas: Macario, Wright, and Others Stand Out During the Week

Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Macario, Wright, and more

Catarina Macario’s performance in the Chelsea squad continued to shine on Wednesday night despite a setback for Emma Hayes’ team in their pursuit of the WSL title.

Macario provided an assist in Chelsea’s 4-3 defeat to Liverpool, playing the full 90 minutes in her forward role. The U.S. women’s national team forward now has three assists across all competitions since returning to action for the reigning league champions. Her corner kick in the ninth minute led to Aggie Beever-Jones scoring for a 1-0 lead for the Blues, but Liverpool came back to claim victory at home.

Macario will look to make a significant impact in Chelsea’s final three league matches of the season, as they need a flawless run to catch up with Manchester City for the title. The Citizens are currently six points ahead of Chelsea in the standings and could secure the title on Sunday with a win against Arsenal, provided Chelsea drop points against Bristol City.

In England, Haji Wright scored a goal for Coventry City while Catarina Macario provided an assist in Chelsea’s WSL loss to Liverpool.

In Italy, Tanner Tessmann played the full match for Venezia, but their Serie B side suffered a loss to Catanzaro.

In the CONCACAF region, both Alex Zendejas and Brandon Vazquez were eliminated from the Champions Cup.
