The 2024 Wimbledon Championships kicked off with a successful start for top seed Jannik Sinner and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz at the All England Club. Alcaraz began his campaign on Centre Court, overcoming a spirited effort from Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal with a 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-2 victory. Later in the evening, Sinner faced Yannick Hanfmann on Court 1, eventually triumphing after dropping a set in a 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 battle lasting nearly three hours. Several seeds fell on the opening day, including Seb Baez, Nicolas Jarry, Adrian Mannarino, and Mariano Navone.

On Centre Court, Alcaraz managed to navigate Lajal’s aggressive game to secure his first-round win. Despite facing some challenges, the Spaniard showcased his skills, including his signature drop shots and powerful groundstrokes. On Court 1, Sinner faced a tough test from Hanfmann but ultimately emerged victorious, setting up a second-round clash with Matteo Berrettini.

Daniil Medvedev also had an impressive start to his Wimbledon campaign, defeating Aleksandar Kovacevic in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 win on Court 1. The Russian maintained his record of never losing on Court 1 at Wimbledon and looks forward to his next challenge in the tournament.
