Recap of Day Ten at Wimbledon 2024

Wimbledon 2024 Day Three Recap

Day ten at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships is done, and unfortunately only featured one men’s quarter-final match.

The day started with Alex de Minaur having to withdraw from his match with Novak Djokovic due to the hip injury he sustained on match point in the previous round.

This was a huge blow to ticket buyers, making a Centre Court ticket priced at £200 one of the worst-value products imaginable. The schedule featured only a lopsided women’s match and one mixed doubles match.

Over on court one, things were slightly better as Lorenzo Musetti took on Taylor Fritz. The Italian held off the American 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to make his first Grand Slam semi-final.

Musetti Makes Milestone Move, Faces Djokovic in Wimbledon Semis

Lorenzo Musetti is into his first Grand Slam semi-final, having outlasted Taylor Fritz 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Historically, grass hasn’t been a surface for the Italians, and Musetti is just the fourth Italian men’s singles semi-finalist in Wimbledon history.

However, having watched a few of his matches in the lead-up to SW19 and his draw, I had him getting to the quarter-finals, so it was no real surprise to see him make the latter stages.

His win against Fritz came from a solid serving display and his ability to mix up his game. After dropping the first set, Musetti switched up his tactics and started playing a lot more slice which the American couldn’t really deal with as it stopped him being aggressive from the baseline.

Musetti also returned well, using the chip return to great effect and he converted 6 of 13 breakpoints throughout the match, two of which came in the fifth as he secured a double break with some stellar play.

I don’t think I’ve realised what I have done yet. I was talking with my team about how to play on the big stage. It was the first time I’ve had the opportunity to walk out on this amazing stadium, and it’s been an honour for me. At the start of the match, Taylor was leading the game, especially with his serve, and I couldn’t return well. In the second set, I had a big reaction after breaking at the start, and that changed my mind and my attitude. That probably made the difference and hopefully, on Friday I will have the same one. Musetti on his win.
