The second oldest course in the Algarve has been undergoing significant sustainable updates in recent months, with a new state-of-the-art clubhouse scheduled to open in November.
The focus of the renovations has been on sustainability, with the introduction of a new long-term strategy aimed at making it one of Europe’s most environmentally friendly courses. Key initiatives include new sprinkler systems and water-resistant grass varieties to reduce water consumption, hydropressor stations to decrease energy usage, and the adoption of new 100% electric machinery.
These changes are being implemented without the course having to close, ensuring minimal disruption to visiting golfers. All on-course developments are expected to be completed by the end of August.
Nuno Sepúlveda, co-CEO of DETAILS, the management platform overseeing all of Vilamoura’s golfing assets, stated: “The renovations of the Old Course are aligned with the long-term vision of enhancing quality, sophistication, and the guest experience. They aim to maintain high standards in golfing facilities and service, and strengthen Vilamoura’s reputation as a premier golf destination.
By carefully balancing the old with the new, the renovation ensures that the course remains a cherished destination for golfers.”
Greens, fairways, bunkers, and tee boxes are all receiving meticulous maintenance to ensure premium quality and sustainability. The course’s overall appearance will be enhanced with more definition between grassed play areas and iconic pine trees, resulting in improved quality and appearance.
Additional improvements include the redevelopment of the driving range with modern technology to cater to various training needs and experiences for golfers.
