An interesting development seems to have taken place around the Tua Tagovailoa contract situation down in Miami.
The Pro Bowl quarterback is entering the end of his rookie contract and looking for a massive extension.
However, ESPN’s Jeff Darlington recently did not seem completely confident in this deal happening the way that Tagovailoa might want it to happen.
“I’ve been long optimistic about Tua Tagovailoa getting this deal done…Right now, the Dolphins are not offering the contract that is the market value…Based on my conversations, they are not in the Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence ballpark,” Darlington stated on NFL Live.
Miami really has an interesting decision to make here.
Either they pay up for Tagovailoa, or they don’t pay him and move on from him after this year.
But, why would you want to risk letting go of one of the better passers in the league?
In back-to-back seasons, Tagovailoa has thrown for 25+ touchdowns and had a passer rating of over 100.
Additionally, he has guided the Dolphins to the playoffs in consecutive seasons, which has not happened since the turn of the century.
The Dolphins need to make this decision fairly simple.
Pay the guy who has turned the tide of the franchise all the way around.
In most respects, he could be the best quarterback to come through those doors since the great Dan Marino.
If they pay him, this issue will be resolved, and the team can then look forward to the present and future with their franchise quarterback.
