Rex Ryan Underwhelmed by Arthur Smith’s Offensive Strategy in Recent Game

Rex Ryan Is Not Impressed With Arthur Smith's Offense

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense has hit a rough patch to start the 2024-25 season, posting a 3-2 record that has raised eyebrows among fans and analysts alike.

Despite a roster packed with talent, the team has struggled to find its footing, particularly evident in their recent loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

New offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who joined the Steelers this offseason after a successful tenure as the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach, was brought in to breathe new life into an offense that showed promise but lacked consistency.

However, the results so far have been less than stellar.

In a recent segment of an ESPN Radio show, Rex Ryan, Mike Greenberg, and Paul Hembekides didn’t pull any punches in their analysis of the Steelers’ offense under Smith’s direction.

Ryan was particularly scathing, stating, “It’s great that he majors in the run game because Pittsburgh needed that. But this guy’s passing attack? I mean, oh my god! What high school did we borrow this passing attack from? It’s awful. I don’t care what kind of receivers you have.”

Five games into the season, the offense appears to be a work in progress.

The Steelers have grappled with slow starts, inconsistent play-calling, and an inability to sustain drives.

Sunday’s performance was especially concerning, with the offense appearing lethargic in their loss.

Pittsburgh managed just 92 total rushing yards against a defense missing its two best players along the defensive line.

The concerns that surfaced in Week 5 have only added to the growing unease surrounding the team’s offensive direction.

All eyes will be on Arthur Smith to see if he can address these issues and shift the increasingly negative perspective that seems to be gaining traction with each passing week.
